How it works
Each Pachamama urn is designed for a gentle, respectful farewell in harmony with nature.
🕊️ Floating Time
The urn floats for approximately 30 seconds to 2 minutes, offering a serene moment of reflection before it softly begins its descent.
🌊 Biodegradable Process
Once submerged, the biodegradable bag containing the ashes dissolves within 1–2 minutes, allowing the ashes to return naturally to the earth. The outer urn, crafted from sustainable materials, gradually dissolves over several hours to a few days—depending on water conditions.
📜 Simple Instructions
Each urn comes with easy-to-follow instructions and a biodegradable bag for the ashes. No assembly is needed—just gentle hands and an open heart.
This process honors the sacred cycle of life, returning your loved one to nature with beauty, dignity, and care.
Cruise & Airline Policies
🚢 Cruise Ceremonies
Most cruise lines allow biodegradable urns for sea ceremonies, often requiring advance notice and coordination with Guest Services. Ceremonies must be held on an open deck, not from balconies.
We include a biodegradability certificate with every order — view it here.
✈️ Air Travel
Pachamama urns are fragile and not recommended for air travel. For flights, use a TSA- and IATA-approved container and transfer the ashes into the urn upon arrival.
Eco Promise & Materials
Each Pachamama urn is crafted with 100% biodegradable materials, including cotton, natural paper, plant fibers, and tissue paper. Every component is non-toxic, gentle on the Earth, and designed to return naturally to the environment.
🌱 Our urns meet international standards for biodegradability — view certificate here.
This is our eco promise: to honor life with beauty, and the planet with care.

from 72 reviewsThe ern was beautiful and the communication and service was exceptional. Virginia was kind and very responsive. I have recommended Pachamama to family and friends, thank you!

item was exactly as shown

Skeptical when I opened the box, but it worked perfectly and was beautiful. The paper flower sort of blossomed when it touched the water.

Worked beautifully… found a calm spot on the ocean and set her off

These people are absolutely great!

Thoughtfully made, and very beautiful

Gorgeous, perfect for my sister's ashes being set into the ocean.

Absolutely beautiful. Heart while broken due to our loss happy for this.

Really beautiful. Came quickly and prettier than expected. Thanks!

Beautiful packaging and very nice item for my partner's ashes to be distributed in a nature setting so that the container is biodegradable.

Unfortunately we were not able to put it in the ocean due to strong waves, but we used it to transport the ashes in it. We love it!
These were perfect for our ceremony, especially since it was a windy day. The flowers on top were beautiful. One floated for a bit while the other went down pretty quick. My recommendations to someone using them: 1. Make sure you get the air out of the bag the ashes are in before you close it. 2. Try to get the bag of ashes flat in the box before you put it in the water. I think that is why the one went down pretty quickly. I thought these were great and created a beautiful moment for our family.

Received in perfect order. Looks just like the pictures! It will be a beautiful way to say a final farewell to my mom.

it is so beautiful and bigger than expected

Stunningly beautiful! This will help bring peace to our family. Thank you

A Simple, Sacred Ritual

Prepare with Love
Gently place the ashes into the water-soluble bag, which dissolves once in contact with water. Close it with the red ribbon, perhaps lighting a candle or speaking a few words of remembrance as you do.

Place with Care
Place the bag inside the urn, move it softly so the ashes settle evenly, and then close the urn with the natural jute cord provided—tying it as a symbol of love and connection.

Release with Intention
When ready, place the urn into the water—or into the earth. You may play music, light a candle, or speak from the heart, letting this moment become a tender farewell in harmony with nature’s cycle.
